TEEN VOLUNTEER PROGRAM INFORMATION:

The Teen Volunteer Program is one of the Library's biggest and most popular ongoing programs for teens. It is made up of local teens, ages 13-19 (currently homeschooled, or enrolled in middle school or high school), who are interested in giving back to the community by volunteering for one weekly shift for a variety of tasks and special projects assigned by the Teen Services Librarian. In years past, we have had up to 30 active Teen Volunteers at any given time, volunteering up to 2,000 hours a year!

LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FOR TEENS

This new teen-driven leadership program is perfect for students in 8th-12th grade who are looking to make an impact in the community while learning essential peer team-building skills. After a short application process, the chosen teens will create a program, a series of events, or culminating experience during a 9-10 week period of time. Teens will be responsible for brainstorming ideas; planning, delegating, and executing the tasks, as well as implementing the final outcome. The success of each cohort of teen leaders is directly contingent on their ability to work as a team and also to discern their own individual interests and talents, and to use them to their fullest potential. Interested teens are required to write a short essay and fill out an application (available at the Customer Service Desk at the Benicia Public Library). This program is scheduled to run 3 times throughout the 2023-2024 school year, with the first one starting the week of September 11. Please reach out to BrandiBette Smead, Leadership Coordinator, with questions about this new program.
