One-to-One tutoring

Free, private tutoring is available to anyone who lives or works in Benicia, is over 16, out of school, and wants to improve his or her basic reading skills. The tutoring focus is on the student's goals, which often are reading to a child, helping a child with schoolwork, reading the newspaper, using a computer, getting a job - or a better job, getting a driver’s license, or becoming a citizen.

• All tutoring is done by volunteers from the community who receive tutor training before being matched with a learner.
• Learner and tutor pairs meet once or twice a week, for about two hours total, at a time and place that is convenient for both of them.

Support for creating and updating resumes and general career counseling.
