- If your flu symptoms are severe, such as trouble breathing, excessive vomiting, or diarrhea.seek care immediately.
- Practice good personal hygiene, which is critical to reduce the spread of flu viruses. This includes frequent and thorough hand washing at least twenty seconds including between fingers and under finger nails; covering nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing; using disposable tissues and throwing them away promptly after use.
-
The virus can live on hard objects up to 8 hours. Flu viruses may be spread when a person touches a hard surface (such as a desk or doorknob) or an object (such as a keyboard or pen) where the virus has landed and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth. Routine cleaning of surfaces will help stop the virus from spreading in this way.
These precautions are extremely important. They make a significant difference in reducing the severity and the spread of flu viruses.
