John Adams and the Freedom of Speech

Dr. Alan Taylor of UC Davis will be speaking on John Adams and the Freedom of Speech.  Dr. Taylor's research interests lie in "Early American History (colonial, revolutionary, and early republic), history of the American West, and history of pre-confederation Canada.

Politics and Principle: the Leadership and Political Legacy of John Adams

Sunday, May 23 -- 3 pm

Ben Krupicka from UC Berkeley will discuss John Adams' political legacy and presidential leadership in a brand new country. John Adams is especially interesting because of his desire to combine personal virtue and political leadership. Adams is an important political figure given his role in the birth of the nation's two-party system.

Join Robert M. Shelby, current Poet Laureate of Benicia, for a retrospective reading of his poetry in farewell to Benicia poets and the community. Light refreshments and open microphone will be available.

Dr. Mark Peterson of UC Berkeley and Dr. Caroline Winterer from Stanford University will present on the topic John Adams, his library, and how his books influenced him and others during this time in history. 

Flip Through the Pages of John Adams Books

Have you come to the exhibit yet?  If you have, you leave wanting to touch his books which are in the John Adams Library at the Boston Public Library.  We have access to the next best thing. 

Internet Archives has digitized his collection so you can flip through the pages of his books on the computer and see his notes for yourself.  Check it out below.
